The Atelier Series
Nine makers, one north-facing window, zero strobes — a winter studio series about hands, tools and the rooms where things get made.
The brief & the approach.
Challenge: photograph nine very different craftspeople — a painter, a ceramicist, a letterpress printer among them — so the series still hangs together as one body of work.
Approach: one chair, one window, one backdrop, repeated exactly for every sitter. The constraint became the style: same light and framing, wildly different hands and tools. Each sitting ran forty-five minutes, including tea.
